Your gift keeps a family housed, fed and connected through a crisis.
Jefferson County Immigrant Rights Advocates provides a flexible safety-net program combining direct family assistance, practical English instruction, rights and resource navigation, and referrals to qualified service providers. This request is expected to reach approximately 25–35 families. an estimated 50 to 170 residents.
Many participants work in construction, agriculture, housekeeping, hospitality, caregiving, landscaping and food service. Families may have seasonal or unstable income, high housing and transportation costs, limited access to public benefits, and no capacity to absorb an unexpected expense or a loss of employment.
Here are the problems you can help solve
Limited English proficiency makes it harder to communicate with an employer, a healthcare provider, a landlord, a school or an agency. Lack of affordable transportation or childcare and rural isolation make it harder to reach any of them. And unfamiliarity with what's available, as well as a shortage of culturally and linguistically appropriate services, means families may not know help exists, or may not know whom to trust with the question.
When a household loses a family member's income, the loss cascades: income, transportation, childcare and the family's primary connection to community services can all disappear simultaneously, alongside significant emotional stress, fatigue, fear and isolation. Rent, utilities, food and healthcare do not pause.
JCIRA's role is to be the trusted, culturally responsive point of access when that happens — and to serve as a bridge to local organizations that may not have bilingual staff or established relationships within the immigrant community. Effective referrals help residents reach the right service earlier, improve coordination among providers, and reduce the chance that a manageable problem becomes a costly emergency.
JCIRA does not provide legal representation. It helps people understand their rights, options and available resources, and connects those needing legal assistance with qualified agencies.
What your donation makes possible
Your donation goes to direct family assistance; flexible support for rent, utilities, food, healthcare, transportation or gasoline, qualified legal service costs and other essential household expenses. Additionally, funds are allocate to English language instruction, materials and facilitation, as well as coordination, needs assessments, and referrals.
The expected outcomes are concrete: roughly 21–22 families receiving direct assistance for an urgent need; 25–35 families receiving one or more forms of support. At least 80% of families who receive direct assistance from JCIRA report that it resolved or stabilized an urgent need, or prevented it from becoming a more serious crisis;.
The bottom line
JCIRA was built and sustained primarily by volunteers who established trusted relationships with families and responded flexibly to need. It recently hired its first Executive Director and is now strengthening intake, financial controls, program tracking and outcome measurement — so it can document demand, evaluate results and manage resources responsibly, without losing the flexible and personal approach that made it effective.
In 2025, demand already exceeded available flexible funding. Your donation helps a small, trusted, community-rooted organization meet that need.
